Overview

This experiential learning project is designed to travellers understand the irony of life in rural Nepal and reflect on the privileges and opportunities they enjoy, while simultaneously contributing meaningfully to a marginalized indigenous community.

This unique community-engaging sustainable tour in Nepal is designed for travelers who wish to go beyond sightseeing and truly connect with local communities. The journey combines UNESCO heritage exploration in Kathmandu, a deep indigenous Chepang village immersion, volunteering at a rural public school, community cooking classes, camping, and an optional rafting adventure on the Trishuli River.

At the heart of this experience is Upper Chepang (Upper Orbang)—home to the Chepang community, one of Nepal’s most marginalized indigenous groups. Travelers will live among the community, share meals, learn traditional cooking, support local education, and understand the realities of rural life, while contributing positively through responsible tourism. The Chepang community represents one of Nepal’s most vulnerable indigenous groups, with limited access to quality education, infrastructure, and economic opportunities. Through this program, travellers will not only observe rural realities but actively engage in capacity-building initiatives, especially in the education sector.

This program reflects Gaze Nepal’s commitment to sustainable tourism, community empowerment, and responsible travel.
