Overview

The Story of Baseri Farm Stay and Retreat

Tucked away in the peaceful village of Baseri, just a few hours’ drive from Kathmandu, Baseri Farm Stay and Retreat was born out of a family’s dream to preserve their heritage, promote sustainable living, and share the simple joys of rural Nepali life with the world. What began as a humble home surrounded by terraced fields and forests has grown into a welcoming retreat that still holds its original warmth and authenticity.

Founded by a family deeply rooted in Baseri for generations, the farm stay is a living story of love for the land. The family decided not to migrate to the city but to transform their ancestral home into a place where guests can feel the true heartbeat of Nepal. Every corner of the retreat tells a tale—from the handcrafted furniture to the stone pathways lined with seasonal blooms. Here, sustainability isn't a trend—it’s a way of life passed down through generations.

What You'll Experience at Baseri Farm Stay and Retreat

  1. Traditional Farming Activities
  2. Roll up your sleeves and step into the shoes of a Nepali farmer. Help plough the fields with oxen, sow seasonal seeds, plant rice or harvest vegetables (depending on the season), and learn how organic farming sustains the village. This hands-on experience connects you directly with the land and the rhythms of rural life.
  3. Local Cooking Experience
  4. Join the hosts in the traditional kitchen to prepare Nepali meals using farm-fresh ingredients. Learn how to make dishes like dal bhatgundrukachar, and local snacks, cooked over firewood stoves. Savor your self-made meal while sitting cross-legged in a rustic dining room or outside with a mountain view.
  5. Village Walk and Cultural Immersion
  6. Explore Baseri’s scenic trails with a local guide, passing terraced fields, small temples, and homes built in traditional styles. Visit local schools, meet village elders, and engage in warm conversations that provide real insight into rural Nepali life. You’ll also have the opportunity to participate in seasonal festivals and rituals if your visit aligns.
  7. Mindful Mornings and Evenings
  8. Wake up to birdsong and join optional morning yoga or meditation sessions amidst nature. In the evenings, gather around a bonfire for storytelling, folk songs, or simply stargaze under the clear Himalayan sky.
  9. Sustainable Living Tour
  10. Learn about eco-friendly practices integrated into daily life—rainwater harvesting, composting, natural farming methods, and traditional architecture made with local materials. Discover how every part of the retreat is designed to work with nature, not against it.
  11. Craft and Skill Sharing Workshops
  12. Try your hand at local crafts like weaving bamboo baskets, making simple pottery, or grinding millet using traditional tools. These slow, meditative practices offer a window into the artistry of village life.
